Joseph
Pilates
developed this method
of body conditioning by blending eastern
and western philosophies of exercise. He created a system of exercises
based
on the principle that developing a strong flexible spine with a
stabilized core would
result in proper alignment of the body. The benefits would be seen
in the way one
moved, played sports or simply stood. These exercises he referred
to as
contrology. Contrology is both an art and science.
The movements, which originate and are sustained in your center,
elongate the
muscles and will reflect grace and symmetry in everyday activity.
Pilates improves
circulation of blood flow throughout the body. This is the result
of correct breathing,
completely emptying and filling the lungs of oxygen, which stimulates
the muscles
into greater activity.
Expanding
the rib cage and lengthening the spine provides the perfect house
for the internal organs of the body. Joseph Pilates said, “
contrology develops
the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality,
invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit." |
